The Last Reflection

Final Reflection
Here is the last refection which is mainly talking about  not only what I have learnt and got from enrolling Electronic Business unit for my last semester in UWA but also implement those concepts and ideas in other projects including real life scenarios . Starting from there were many activities that I have been through during the semester that will be listed in the following content.
Activities in class + assignments
-          Debate
-          Group activities
-          Seminars (Guest speakers)
-          Second Life project
-          Lecture
-          Technology analysis
-          Reflections
-           Quizzes
-          Online practice (multiple choices)
-          Lecture in SL
As you can see from the list, many activities had been assigned to students in order to develop and implement their ideas to utilize in the practical situation such as work place and related assignment.
For example,
Debate is one of my favorite activities because this activity teaches me how speak critically in term of persuade the others to believe in my speech which is the core idea for doing debate. Moreover, there is another reason behind for doing debate which is I was motivated to revise the chapters unintentionally; therefore, this is an effective method for me to keep updated with the weekly chapters.
Group activities are awesome in my perspective because I have got a chance to show off my ideas and share with my team members. Moreover, what I got from doing group works is that my ideas have been expanded by discussing the particular topics with both of my team mates and the whole class. Therefore, getting new ideas and learn how to develop your own ideas with others, plus critic and recommend others’ ideas to make them more corrective and accurate are the main reasons from doing group works.

Quizzes are the most effective medicine for keeping me alert all the time for the whole course because if you are not well prepare for each quiz, the mark will be affected by a bad performance for sure. Therefore, each student has to prepare for each quiz intensively. However, the above reason is not main reason for doing the quizzes. In my perspective, the main reason to do the quizzes is to allow students to have a chance to show and implement their understanding in each chapter toward the quizzes.

Highlight of this reflection
Come to the highlight of this reflection, in this section will be talking about the most impressive activity which is an online game called “SECOND LIFE”. I had a chance to do an unforgettable activity where I have to create an avatar to explore the Second Life particular environment in Dublin order to observe the information in marketing, event & operations, market and CFO perspective.  Therefore, the following list will be the sub-activities that I did in this Second Life activity.

What is Second Life? see the below video :)

Second Life activity
-          Role playing
-          Searching information in SL (Dublin)
-          Make a presentation in SL
-          Working with other students from international university (Sweden)
What I got from doing this activity
As the assigned roles for each group, students have a chance to hunt the required information for each role to answer the case study questions.  Therefore, all the information was linked to chapters in class or we can say that students have to implement all they have learnt through the semester to utilize in Second Life assignment. So, this is so AWESOME for me to apply all my knowledge in the Second Life assignment because it is not only a new way of testing students through online game but also this is a real world practice which can be developed to be a future business and work as well.

Moreover, I also got a chance to make a presentation via Second Life. This form of presentation is so completely new to me.  In my perspective, it is so amazing that we can do the presentation or even lecture in online game where students have no need to go there physically; as a result, students can attend this presentation and lecture from every corner of the world. For example, the students from Sweden joined this memorable moment with us in Second Life.

IMPORTANTLY
I can implement this knowledge to develop one of my projects which is Marketing and Society unit where I have to promote the campaign called “The TRAIL” to make a donation against cancer; as a result, the Trail has been promoted in Second Life by implementing and combining the electronic marketing and traditional marketing aspects such as 4Ps and IMC to promote the campaign successfully.

The Advertisement for the Trail Project
Conclusion for the whole semester
THIS UNIT (ELECTRONIC BUSINESS) IS SO FREAKING AWESOME THAT TEACH ME HOW TO DO THE BUSINESS ONLINE and HOPE THAT I CAN MAKE SOME MONEY SOON…..

Reflection Two : APPLICATIONS

Statement 2: Applications
Today I would like to tell you the story about the applications for E-business such as supply chain management, E-procurement, E-marketing and customer relationship management. I was so impressed what I have learnt so far because there are many theories and concepts that I can implement them with not only my existing knowledge but also the future career or my own business. At the beginning, I have to admit that most of the businesses nowadays have been driven by the technology in every single process starting from the acquirement of materials to product distribution to customers. Therefore, the topic today is very important to the one who want to manage their own business or working for any company because the technology is embedded in the business process and we should know how to enhance our work efficiency by implementing those applications with the business process.  Today, I would like to share the one example of the implementation of technology with supply chain management which is the area that I like the most.
What is supply chain management (SCM)??
The explanation of SCM will be explained in the following video.

As you can see from the video, SCM is so important to make the business flow smoothly and there are many technologies embedded in the processes. Interestingly, I am particularly interested in one of the SCM applications called RFID technology. This application can drive the world of supply chain to step forward to the new era.
Have your heard about the RFID technology? If you haven’t, please read the content below!
RFID is…
The identity of an object or person in a form of a unique serial number will be transmitted wirelessly by using radio waves; this system called Radio Frequency identification
Enabling data to be transmitted by a tag, which is read by a RFID reader and operated according to the needs of particular application is the purpose of a RFID system. Moreover, specific information such as price, weight, color, expiration date, location and identification will be embedded in a tagged product. As a result, there are many top companies around the world such as Toyota, 3M, Intel, Wal-Mart and Amazon that adopt this technology in order to maximize their profit
In addition, RFID has ability to track moving objects. If compared to ubiquitous UPC bar-code technology, RFID technology does not require contact or line of sight for communication. Furthermore, it is not only a capability of RDFI tag that can be read from several meters away but also beyond the line of sight of the reader. Beside, Bulk reading is another interesting feature of RFID system
HOW TO MAKE IT RUNs

Basically, three components are mainly required in order to run the RFID system.
  • An antenna or coil
  • A transceiver (with decoder)
  • A transponder (RF tag) electronically programmed with unique information
Firstly, tag will be activated by the radio signal from the antenna in order to read and write data to it. Secondly, the reader’s activation signal will be detected when the RFID tag passes through the electromagnetic zone. Finally, the reader decodes the data encoded in the tag's integrated circuit (silicon chip) and the data is passed to the host computer for processing.
All in all, the organization will be benefited from adopting the RFID technology in three main aspects. First, the companies will have a good opportunity to reduce a number of product thefts from the effective tracking and quick authenticity check via RFID. The effective supply chain visibility is the second benefit because the firms are not only stable but also increase their demand certainty that can enhance the companies’ ability to track and manage the flow of inventory or products effectively. Inventing a new business process or product is the last benefit from the firms who are adopting RFID technology. Therefore, as a high competitive market nowadays, there are many companies that tend to adopt RFID instead of barcode due to the grater advantages in term of traceability and efficiency.
HOWEVER…
to adopt RFID technology, the firms have to consider not only the firms’ infrastructural capability but also the characteristic of their business.
Therefore, I also have a chance to do one of the most AWESOME activities in class called DEBATE. Incidentally, I got a topic regarding the SCM for the debate. I am the support team where I have to disagree a Porter Model saying that the traditional value chain model of Michael Porter is no longer useful as a framework for value chain management.
Let’s me explain you a bit….
The old model is a one-way chain involved with pushing products to customer; it does not highlight the importance of understanding customer needs through market research and responsiveness through innovation and new product development.
All processes in a supply chain fall into one of two categories depending on the timing of their execution relative to end customer demand. With pull processes, execution is initiated in response to customer order where customer demand is known. On the other hand, push processes, execution is initiated in anticipation of customer order where demand is unknown and must be forecasted.
PUSH VS PULL
According to the traditional value chain model, the model has been focusing on a push model in order to sell products or services by predicting the demand from customers without doing any customer research.  However, nowadays customer research plays an important role in order to help the companies to develop their strategies to match with wide varieties of customer’s need due to the increase of innovation and technology.
For EXAMPLE…
Dell Company provides an excellent example to support this view point, as we know that Dell Company provides options for customers to customize their own computer. In other words, customers can choose every single part of computer as they want such as a monitor from SONY, a chip from INTEL, a keyboard from another company and so on.
According to the push strategy, Dell has to predict the customer demand and produce in a large number to joy the economy of scale. Imagine that how many computer parts that the company has to stock in warehouse according to the wide varieties of choices for customers to make a decision.
Conversely, If Dell Company used the revised model where pull strategy is also focused, the production process will be done after the customers make a purchase or we can call “make to order”. In other words, the assembly of computer parts was shifted from the push to pull phase of the supply chain. As a result, customers are always able to get the computer of their choice, while total computer part inventories across the supply chain have declined.
To sum up, the customers’ need is necessary to take into account in order to make a strong competitive strategy due to the rise in demand uncertainty nowadays. Thus, we believe that Porter’s traditional value chain model is no longer useful anymore.
Therefore, I am looking forward to implement all of my knowledge to use in my very near future.

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE LEARNT FROM THE CLASS…. Which is very helpful
The last refection will be uploaded soon

Reflection one : INTRODUCTION

Today I have something interesting to share with you. I will tell you about a grate experience that I have learnt from the unit where my idea has been changed to think beyond what I knew in the past, called E-business. Generally speaking, I’m doing master of marketing so I’m quite confident that I have a good skill in term of marketing; however, when I was stepping into this unit, it was unbelievable that I feel like a baby who knows nothing about the electronic world. There are tons of applications and technologies that have to integrate with marketing in order to do the E-business that can make the business to be competitive nowadays.

At first, I was so scared because I have to learn something completely new so I expected that the class would be difficult in term of comprehension and assignment.

After I have been studied this unit for 5 weeks, I feel that “yes, it is difficult” but not difficult as I expected. There are some reasons behind for the above statement; therefore the whole experience for the first five weeks will be explained through these reasons as well.

First, the topic is divided into 4 main sections which are introduction, applications, implementation and review. The topic division makes me feel more comfortable and easy understanding through step by step. In the first section which is introduction, I have learnt many things such as the general information about e-business which are e-business infrastructure, e-environment, and e-business strategy. In addition, this knowledge can be applied with the tradition marketing strategy to improve the overall performance of the company.

Therefore, I’m interested in online business that quite popular nowadays. There are many friends of mine who are doing online business but they failed. The way we do online business and physical business seems to be the same but it is not. As I have learnt from the first 5 weeks is that the technology is very important to enhance the business ability and it has to be integrated with the business process in order to generate the effective values.

Second, class activities are very interesting to me because they help me not only to understand to topic clearly but also help me to apply the knowledge that I read from the textbook to discuss in a group activities such as debate, weekly exercise and quiz. Moreover, in my opinion, the quiz is a very useful activity because it forces me to catch up what I learnt for each week.

Third, Web CT forum for students is the thing that I found it very useful. Every week, a group leader has to share the discussed information from the group work on this forum. There are 9 groups in the class which mean we can compare the differences among groups and develop the ideas to be the highest potential one. Moreover, students can share and ask something in this forum as well; therefore, I got some interesting information from this forum as well such as books and ideas. As a result, I can use this information to improve not only my assignment but also to develop my ideas.

Last, Debate is another thing that I like the most from this class. Debate will be held in every class; moreover, students are expected to do a pre-reading to cover the debate topic for each week. This is a good idea for me to get myself keep reading on the chapters. Importantly, students can learn many things from debate such as new ideas and summary for the particular topics.

To sum up, I found out that this unit is very useful for me to help me know how to run my online business smoothly. Although the unit itself is quite hard, all the processes in the class have been strategically planned by lecturer to make me feel comfortable with the unit and make me have more understanding.  So, I hope that I can acquire more experiences during the course.
