Bacardi 151 is an over-proof rum. The 151-proof liquor has an alcohol content of 75.5%, compared to the usual 35%-40%.
Due to its high proof, it is typically used as a component in cocktails (whose final alcohol concentration may be greater than that of drinks made with conventional rum). The spirit is flammable and is used in flaming beverages such as flaming B-52s.
Bacardi 151 was imported to America in 1995.
The product, as shipped by Bacardi, is equipped with a flame arrestor in the neck of the bottle to prevent large volumes of the flammable liquid from igniting while the bottle is being applied to a source of ignition (e.g. a flaming pan or dish, a flambe). Nevertheless, incidents of severe injury have occurred, such as the subject of the litigation and a New York Supreme Court ruling titled, Sclafani v. BROTHER JIMMY'S BBQ, INC.
Bacardi 151 is featured in the song "Caribou Lou", by rap artist Tech N9ne. It is an essential component of a mixed drink called a Caribou Lou, consisting of 151 rum, Malibu rum, and pineapple juice.
Real experience
I knew this powerful alcohol in Perth. I went to the Metro City in North Bridge with my friends. On that day, we didn’t know why we wanted to try something stronger than usual. Since we had arrived there, just walked directly toward the bar and asked for “ THE STRONGERST ALCOHOL IN HERE”. The bartender looked at our face and said “ Do you know Bacardi 151?” “What the hell is this 151”is what I was thinking at that time. Then the bartender showed us the percentage!! Wow 75.5% of alcohol. This could be flammable for sure. We decided to drink it pure in a shooter. After made up our mind for few second, we drank them all at once. I could feel every part of my organ. Starting from my tongue, it was numb then moving to throat. The feeling of fire and burn were keep moving to my stomach and passed my intestine. It was so HOT. You can get drunk if you drink this thing even for few shots. This was the first experience that I tried this Bacardi 151. The second round is coming soon for sure.
